Carving and printing from linoleum are a fast and easy way to create prints without a press. From the initial drawing, which gets transferred onto linoleum and then carved into it, to the application of water-based inks and the printing by hand onto paper, you can create multiple prints from a single image. We explore a variety of mark-making methods and inking techniques to create one-of-a-kind prints, as well as small editions of a repeated image.

The world of New York City street food was even recently the subject of a museum exhibition. Take inspiration from hot dog and pretzel stands, as well as more exotic food vendors, by visiting locations such as Union Square, Central Park, DUMBO, and the High Line. Present your work in class&#8212;via prints, PowerPoint, PDFs, or online&#8212;and receive constructive criticism. Student work is presented at the final class.

Simple, innovative techniques, from ambient to tungsten and on-camera flash techniques, are explored throughout the workshop. The true subject of this workshop is the amazing and fantastic city of New York. There are endless possibilities when making images of the City; our approach is to explore out-of-the-way spots that are filled with interesting and exciting sites. We will travel to places such as the fantasy land of Coney Island and to areas in Queens and the Bronx, and we will take the Staten Island Ferry to that unique borough. Critical elements of photographing these places&mdash;including lighting, environment, and location; composition, camera position, and formats; and the relationship between place and photographer&mdash;are explored and analyzed. The course will culminate in an online exhibit featuring students&rsquo; best pictures.

<p>Starting out as an art movement in Vienna in the 1990s, lomography refers to a photo style using analog cameras with unique abilities, like capturing 360-degree panoramic shots and producing creative imagery. The Lomography Society now has a store on West 8th Street in Manhattan. In this two-session workshop, discover the imaginative appeal of lomography. We meet at the Lomography Gallery Store, where you select a camera to borrow to shoot at such locations as the Highline and Times Square. You buy the film, which is processed and printed at the store free of charge at day&rsquo;s end. The first class includes a presentation on lomography by the manager, Christian Polt. At the second session, all participants&rsquo; prints are discussed and critiqued at the Gallery Store and may be uploaded to the Lomography Society&rsquo;s website.</p>

We will explore the history of hats, bags, shoes, gloves, glasses, and jewelry in the pursuit of completing the perfect look. You will combine visual research and initial concept ideas to design and present a fashion accessory that pushes both fashion and the definition of an accessory forward to the future.
