OBGYN-MD 4001 Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (4 Credits)

The purpose of this elective is to introduce the student to the clinical and research aspects of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI). Each student will work closely with REI attendings and fellows in patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. Students will observe patient consultations, ultrasounds, egg retrievals, embryo transfers, surgeries, and embryology procedures. Students will also have the opportunity to work on a research project, attend the weekly fellow didactic sessions, and give a presentation on an REI topic at the conclusion of the rotation. This elective is only open to students who have completed their clerkship in OB/GYN, and will not be offered to visiting students.

OBGYN-MD 4002 Gynecologic Oncology Advanced (4 Credits)

This sub-internship elective is based out of two hospitals: Bellevue and Tisch Hospital. The elective is designed for students with a strong interest in health disparities within gynecology and a desire to serve an urban, underserved community. It will involve working closely with house staff and faculty in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. Students will participate in radical pelvic surgeries, familiarize themselves with common chemotherapy treatments of gynecologic malignancy, and attend weekly tumor board/departmental conferences. Students will also attend daily work rounds at both hospitals. Readings are assigned for independent study. An informal short scientific presentation is required at the end of the clerkship.

OBGYN-MD 4009 Maternal Fetal Medicine Advanced (4 Credits)

Based in the heart of New York City, our elective in high-risk obstetrics offers exposure to a multitude of maternal and fetal conditions in high-risk obstetrics. This elective is designed for students who have demonstrated a strong interest in racial health disparities and a desire to incorporate public health strategies into their future practice as an obstetrician–gynecologist.

OBGYN-MD 4011 Reproductive Choice (4 Credits)
Typically offered Fall and Spring
This elective includes all aspects of family planning, contraception and abortion. Experience will be gained in clinics, in the procedure room and in the operating room at Bellevue Hospital. There is also opportunity for exposure to procedures and counseling at an outside private abortion facility. Weekly chapter reviews will be given, and an abstract presentation will be expected from each students. The students work directly with the house staff, the senior health educators and the attendings in the Reproductive Choice Service.

OBGYN-MD 4020 Health Care Disparities in Women’s Health (4 Credits)

Health care disparities are a pervasive part of our healthcare system in the United States. Medical students on this elective will rotate through the Family Health Center, Community Medicine Program for women’s homeless health care and prison health clinics, as well as participate in didactic activities exploring the multifactorial etiology of health disparities and the multiple solutions required to eliminate them.

OBGYN-MD 4021 Obstetrics and Gynecology Advanced (4 Credits)
This is an advanced 4-week elective that seeks to build on obstetrics and gynecology knowledge and experiences gained in the pre-clerkship and clerkship years. As an advanced elective, students will be expected to serve at the level of a sub-intern as an integral member of the care team. The rotation offers students hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of obstetrics and gynecology, exposing them to a wide range of clinical cases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Students will also participate in departmental didactics within the OBGYN department. This rotation offers a comprehensive educational and leadership development experience, equipping students with essential foundational knowledge and practical skills. Additionally, it provides opportunities to assume teaching responsibilities, all of which will effectively prepare them for residency.
