Foreign Languages (HIND1-CE)

If you like yoga, meditation, and Indian food, then this is the right course for you. In this short course, acquire basic Hindi communication skills that will complement your interest in Indian culture. Learn how to interact with your friends and counterparts using simple language in real-life situations. The language instruction includes an appropriate cultural component that clarifies the linguistic meanings greatly. By the end of the course, have a good beginner foundation in spoken Hindi.

<p> Build upon&nbsp;<i>Hindi I </i>by expanding your vocabulary and developing your conversational skills through the use of newspaper articles, short literary texts, and other authentic material. Practice the language and experience the culture by visiting the India Bazaar in New York City.</p>

<p>This online/on-site program emphasizes classroom teaching strategies based on the five Cs, proficiency levels, use of target language, and the application of authentic materials. Training is conducted in both target languages and in English. During the course, create a portfolio that demonstrates understanding of the principles of learning and teaching and that includes a standards-based activity and lesson plan, daily journals, a communicative literacy activity, observation report form, and final project. Through the online component, engage in reading, watching videos, journal writing, and discussions. While on site, design activities in groups and individually, and team-teach a beginning-level lesson to high school students and to peers from another NYU program. This program is 50 hours delivered over three weeks&#8212;two weeks of online instruction and one week on site.</p>
