PSYCH-ML 2006  Psychiatry Clerkship  (6 Credits)  
"During this six-week, phase two clinical clerkship, students gain a range of clinical experience treating common psychiatric and substance useÐrelated disorders in hospital- and office-based outpatient settings. Students accompany attending psychiatrists, psychologist, or clinical social workersÑor a combination thereofÑon initial patient assessments, as well as on follow-up visits, and are encouraged to actively participate in each patient encounter, including conducting patient evaluations with supervision. Behavioral health patient encounters occur throughout the hospital, as well as in an office-based outpatient psychiatric setting. Students also assess acute psychiatric patients at an adult emergency setting with an assigned attending psychiatrist."

PSYCH-ML 4064  Psychiatry - Inpatient Clinical Experience  (2 Credits)  
"The inpatient psychiatry service at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn is a 35-bed unit which accepts patients admitted on voluntary, emergency, and 2PC status. The majority of patients have a primary psychotic disorder or mood disorder with psychotic features; almost everyone else carries a diagnosis of non-psychotic mood disorder. Our patient population derives primarily from Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and its environs, which means we are fortunate enough to serve a group of people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Sunset Park has large immigrant communities from China, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean Ð immigrants comprise roughly 47% Sunset Park. Usually there are 3 or 4 different languages spoken on the unit and we strive to provide culturally-informed treatment to all of our patients. Students will be working four full-time attending psychiatrists, in addition to the medical director; 4 full-time social workers, in addition to the assistant director of social worker; and three full-time creative arts therapists. Our daytime nursing staffing is five nurses and five patient care technicians. We partner with the nearby outpatient clinic Sunset Terrace, an FQHC, to be able to provide continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient settings."
