PRECL-DN 8076  Advanced Education in Orthodontics Clinic I A  (20 Credits)  
Part 1 A: This course is composed of 3 essential modules listed below: 1. Orthodontic Summer Orientation for 1st year students 2. Orthodontic Records and Interpretation 3. Clinical Orthodontics The course prepares the 1st year student for the treatment of orthodontic patients in the clinic. During the Summer Orientation course students will learn and practice basic clinical skills such as obtaining quality records, the indications and fabrication of orthodontic appliances. The students will also learn the foundation of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning, and practice their newly acquired skills on new patients. (Year 1)

Part 1 A: This course teaches the foundation knowledge essential for orthodontic clinical practice. It is composed of four essential modules listed below: 1. Diagnosis & Treatment Planning I 2. Orthodontic Mechanotherapy 3. Orthodontic Research I 4. Orthodontic Practice Management Seminars I (Year 1)

PRECL-DN 8078  Advanced Education in Orthodontics Clinic II A  (20 Credits)  
Part 2 A: In addition to treating patients in the clinic – clinical orthodontics – the students will learn to how evaluate the treatment progress of their patients, and treatment outcomes using the model scoring system devised by the American Board of Orthodontics. (Year 2)

Part 3 A: During their last year, students are expected to complete treatment on at least 60 of all cases they started and they will assess the treatment outcomes. Doing so will serve as a Rigorous preparation for the clinical phase of the American Board of Orthodontics certification. (Year 3)

Part A: This course includes advanced training in core pediatric dental clinical techniques, documentation and treatment planning, administration of local anesthesia, use of nitrous oxide/oxygen and behavior management, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and the provision of comprehensive pediatric dental services in hospital and community-based dental clinic settings. Part 1 A: Orthodontics Interdisciplinary Conferences is comprised of a group of regularly scheduled interdisciplinary modules consisting of conferences, seminars and rounds that is designed to present current concepts on topics of shared clinical interest amongst the specialties. The sessions include both faculty and PG student led presentations, which focus on assuring best practices in specialty patient care by employing evidence-based practice principles. The integration of established and emerging biomedical knowledge into complex treatment plans, discussions of complications, performance improvement, risk management, ethics and professionalism challenges, and improved critical thinking skills are stressed during these sessions. PRECL-DN 8093  Advanced Education Program Research  (3 Credits)  
Advanced Education training programs all require some level of participation in research or scholarly activity. Each program sets its own research/scholarly activity requirements to meet or exceed the accreditation standards defined by that discipline. Projects may be lab-based, literature-based, or translational in nature. Students are required to participate in a project at the level defined by their program and demonstrate familiarization with and/or the application of principles of research methodology, types of research design, critical review of the existing literature, statistical analysis of results, and compliance with IRB, PHI, HIPAA, and ethical challenges confronted in conducting research projects. All PG students are expected to complete a project that is publication ready, approved for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and/or has been submitted and approved for presentation at a local, national, or international professional scientific meeting.
