Acquire a sound working knowledge of the fundamentals of English grammar in this basic refresher course. Learn to distinguish between the spoken and written word, and develop your ability to transfer smoothly from one to the other. Topics include the structure of the English language; word formation and dictionary usage; use of verbs to express time, number, and mood; spelling and punctuation; and use of adjectives and adverbs to draw on descriptive qualities in your writing and speech. Work in small groups editing and revising your own work, and applying these skills.

Explore leadership theories and learn to<br><br>apply those theories using skills such as effective communication,<br><br>organization, writing, critical thinking, and action planning. Put your<br><br>knowledge to practical use through small-group work. Create organizational<br><br>leadership plans that address key social and organizational issues and present<br><br>your work for peer review. Interact with business and organization leaders<br><br>through in-class presentations and off-site visits.

EXPR1-CE 9801 Prior Learning Assessment Theory and Practice (2.5 Credits)
This course will help students to identify areas of learning they may want to have evaluated for college-level equivalency. The course also will guide students through the preparation and compilation of all components required for the evaluation of a portfolio of prior learning through the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and LearningCounts.org. Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to demonstrate critical reflection and thinking skills by recognizing and describing the role of prior learning assessment in achieving their unique educational goals and those of adult learners in general; identifying specific areas of competency which they have acquired through life learning experiences, both formal and informal; evaluating and choosing specific college courses that align with their college-level learning and competencies; identifying and collecting various forms of documentation that verify their learning competencies; writing a learning narrative that demonstrates the context and nature of their learning using Kolb’s model of experiential learning; and organizing a learning portfolio using the appropriate formatting and technology.
