Audio Production (AUDP1-CE)

Ableton Live is a digital tool used for live performances, music composing, and arranging. DJs also use it as a mixing tool, because it offers a suite of controls for beat matching, cross-fading, and other effects. Ableton Live is a loop-based software music sequencer as well as a digital audio workstation. Through a series of lectures and exercises, students are introduced to the organization of the system, basic functions, and project views, including Arrangement and Session. Students create a final project incorporating clips, musical instruments, sound effects, or alternate audio elements.

Gain a thorough introduction to the basic concepts and professional practices involved in audio production as it relates to the changing world of multimedia. Explore fundamental audio theory and principles, the inner workings of microphones, basic signal flow, and an introduction to audio production software for traditional recording. Topics include audio file formats, signal processing, and audio in podcasting. This course teaches you how to maximize audio capabilities for a website or online community and how to use audio tools to produce a personal, professional-quality podcast.

Practice essential recording techniques for a variety of media projects, and get hands-on training that enables you to create professional-quality sound in different environments. Whether recording audio for a film, video, or new media production, explore strategies for capturing optimal sound. This course covers basic sonic principles along with audio acquisition equipment, including digital and analog recording devices. Learn techniques to record and mix narration, live action, and sound effects for documentaries and feature films. Lectures and demonstrations cover microphone patterns and placement, and the crucial relationships between sound, camera, and action.

<p dir="ltr">Digital content is everywhere you look. No matter the medium, there is a post-production process that takes your idea from a bunch of raw footage or audio to a polished finalized project. Podcasts and/or short videos usually have a team of people behind them to see it come to life. In many independent projects, that may be one single person. In this overview, we will go over the post-production process so you can have a better understanding of how to take your project to the next level. We will discuss the different phases of post-production whether video or audio touching on things such as media formats, editorial systems, sound design, workflows, and deliverables. We will use an existing project to demonstrate the different phases, from the beginning of the post-production process to upload. We will discuss editorial feedback as a team, as well as how to set up your sessions for best work flow. <p dir="ltr">This course is for people who want to learn audio mixing basics and turn creative ideas into engaging audio content for podcasting, radio and tv. Over eight weeks, you will learn the fundamentals of audio production from recording interviews on an iPhone to mixing audio on a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). The course will cover production processes such as recording, editing and mixing audio as well as sound design. Students gain in-depth, hands-on experience with Reason and learn about MIDI essentials and the integration of Reason with Pro Tools, the industry-standard digital audio workstation.

Learn to create professional quality podcasts utilizing Pro Tools software and portable recording technology. Recording procedures and theory are covered, along with an introduction to navigating the Pro Tools software environment. You will be expected to create your own original podcast for the final class, which you will upload online.
