Aspire (ASPR1-CE)

Leadership I is the first course in a two-part series. In the Leadership series, students will learn the important skills and competencies necessary for effective leadership and success in the college process. Students will have the opportunity to experience structured self-reflection, engage with peers, identify strengths and areas for development, and successfully plan for the important tasks that lie ahead. Students also will walk away with a more comprehensive understanding of the social and emotional skills necessary for continued growth and development in college and beyond.

Foundations of Quantitative Analytics I is the first course in a two-part series. The Quantitative Analytics (QA) course series provides opportunities for students to expand their mathematical reasoning skills. The curriculum contains engaging and relevant problems focused on developing the kind of problem solving skills that can be applied to any quantitative course students may take in college. In summer one, students will explore rich algebra-based problems, though algebraic fluency is not a prerequisite. In summer two, students explore fundamentals of proof and evidence in mathematics, and receive some experience with the type of reasoning required on the quantitative portion of college entrance exams like the SATs.

College Essay Writing I is the first course in a two-part series. The College Essay Writing series will introduce students to the rigors of writing a college essay. All writing begins with a prompt that will lead students to create a personal narrative in the first year. The second year will focus on writing an essay for the Common Application. By understanding how to use grammar and rhetorical devices effectively, students will produce two college essays for submission.

College Prep I is the first course in a two-part series. College Prep I focuses on building a foundational understanding of higher education opportunities in the United States. Students learn about different types of post-secondary institutions and the type of degrees earned in those institutions. This course emphasizes academic, extracurricular, and professional goal-setting, and it exposes students to various academic pathways that lead them toward their long-term aspirations. We also explore the various components of the US college application process, and prepare students for the year ahead, as they pursue higher education.

This course is one of two Fundamentals of Quantitative Analytics course in the academic year of the Aspire program. It provides the fundamentals of proof and builds into part two of the Quantitative Analytics course for high school juniors.

College Prep is a multi-term course geared at supporting students through the college application process, and helping them to develop the necessary skills to navigate a rigorous undergraduate academic environment. Students focus on developing an appropriate list of post-secondary institutions to which they plan to apply, and they craft a resume along with other materials to submit with their college applications. The course also focuses on professional etiquette and interview skills and promotes self-advocacy and strong organizational skills.

The <em>Quantitative Analytics: Explorations in Logic</em> course is one of a two-part <em>Quantitative Analytics</em> course for Aspire students in their senior year of high school.

College Prep is a multi-term course geared at supporting students through the college application process and helping them to develop the necessary skills to navigate a rigorous undergraduate academic environment. Students focus on developing an appropriate list of post-secondary institutions to which they plan to apply, and craft a resume along with other materials to submit with their college applications. The course also focuses on professional etiquette and interview skills and promotes self-advocacy and strong organizational skills.

<p>After completing Aspire Summer II Intensive, students will be introduced to reading they are likely to find in their first-year English Composition courses. These assignments will challenge students to read critically and assess information needed to succeed in their college classes.</p>

<p>As part of the Aspire program, this online class will continue to build on the fundamentals established in the Summer I Intensive. Students will strengthen their writing and grammar skills with practice question that may be similar to what can be expected on the SAT.</p>

Financial Literacy I is the first course in a two-part series aimed at building a foundation for understanding personal finances and making smart financial choices. Through interactive and reflective activities, students will identify key components of banking, saving, and financial goal setting, and will have an opportunity to create their own budget. Students will also leave with a demonstrated understanding of basic knowledge around college finances, including how to determine cost of attendance versus &ldquo;sticker price&rdquo; and applying for loans.

Financial Literacy II is the second course in a two-part series aimed at increasing students&rsquo; understanding of personal finances and making smart financial choices. Building on basic themes around goal setting and budgeting, this course will dig deeper into skills and tools needed to understand college finances, loan borrowing and repayment, and independent living. Additionally, students will develop or improve on their personal budget to utilize after the course is completed.&nbsp;

College Prep II is the second course in a two-part series. College Prep II builds on the foundational knowledge developed in College Prep I and during the academic year. The focus of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to continue to hone their academic and career aspirations, and develop their college application materials to submit in the fall. We emphasize fit in identifying various university options, and encourage students to think beyond rankings and intuitional athletic success. The skills honed in College Prep II are further developed during the academic year.
