A mind body method for becoming aware of and changing movement habits. Focus is on recognizing and learning how to release excess tension and change those habits of movement that interfere with the free and centered use of the body. This leads to the development of a physical understanding of oneself through movements.

This course will provide musicians with an opportunity to physically embody music through the form of Baroque dance. Basic Baroque dance steps, phrases & ornamentations, will be learned & examined through the historic relationship between the two art forms of music & dance. An exploration of the Beauchamp-Feuillet notation system will then be applied to their own reconstructions & their performances throughout the semester.

Instrumental Performance juries assess each student’s growth in instrumental techniques including intonation, rhythm, tone production, articulation, dynamics, and musicality. Juries take place at a designated time at the end of the semester and are evaluated by each student’s program director and any additional invited faculty. Jury repertoire is selected in conversation with each student’s private teacher, and each student studies their jury repertoire in their private lessons.
