Pathology (PATH-ML)
PATH-ML 1023 Special Topic in Pathology (1 Credit)
"Students will have direct exposure to surgical, cytopathology and autopsy pathology. They will learn how specimens are handled, sectioned, processed and how glass slides are produced. They will attend conferences with the pathology residents and interact directly with attending pathologists. Students will learn how pathology is central to the proper diagnosis and treatment of the patient. They will review specimens and glass slides with both resident and attending pathologists. The course will include an introduction to laboratory medicine with rotations through Blood Bank, Special Hematology (Coagulation), General Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Cytogenetics. The student will observe the daily activities in each laboratory section. Clinical correlation is emphasized. The course will be individually adjusted towards the interest of the student. This course is available to both students wishing to pursue a career in pathology as well as those who are pursuing other specialties."
