This is an integrated course comprised of disciplines that are fundamental parts of pediatric dentistry and growth guidance. Throughout this course, students will apply scientific principles to the management of oral disease and use both surgical and non-surgical approaches for disease management. They will learn about preventive/public health treatment measures including teledentistry, SDF, and sealant placement while also learning classic/contemporary restorative techniques including composite preparations and restorations, stainless steel crown preparation including crimping/contouring, and space maintenance. This course is open only to students in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program. Core curriculum.

PCL09-DN 2511  Introduction to Pediatric Dentistry  (1 Credit)

This course will introduce the second-year dental student to the scope of pediatric dentistry. Utilizing on-line videos and case-based studies, the students will be familiarized with the assessment and treatment modalities available for the child and adolescent in need of: medical evaluation; dental evaluation; restorative treatment; orthodontic evaluation; referral for surgical care. The course also addresses: disturbances of dental development; restoration of the primary dentition; Behavior management; space analysis; developmental milestones; infant oral health; pediatric dentistry radiology; pulp management for the primary dentition. This course is open only to students in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program. Core curriculum.
