Financial Aid

NYU Dentistry recognizes that your education is an investment for both you and your family and the Office of Financial Aid is here to help guide you through the application process. Students are not required to submit a separate application for NYU scholarship consideration. All admitted students are automatically reviewed for merit and need-based scholarships. Students granted NYU Scholarships will have their scholarships automatically accepted on their behalf.

Apply to FAFSA

If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and you wish to be considered for federal financial aid, you must complete the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is also required for Dental Hygiene Scholarship consideration.

All dental students may apply as early as October 1 in the year prior to enrollment. The priority filing deadline is May 1, but the FAFSA application may be completed after the priority deadline. Be sure to specify New York University in the school section of the FAFSA. The federal school code for NYU is 002785.

Additional basic eligibility criteria is available at the Federal Student Aid site.

Scholarships

DDS, PostGraduate Scholarships

Students admitted to these programs are reviewed for scholarship consideration by the Office of Admissions. Please direct any inquiries to the Office of Admissions at dental.admissions@nyu.edu.

Dental Hygiene Need-Based Scholarships

The Dental Hygiene Program offers a number of need-based scholarships; however, individual scholarship applications are not required. The amount of the award depends entirely on demonstrated financial need as displayed through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and is subject to available funds. Renewal of these funds is contingent on the student maintaining financial need as well as maintaining satisfactory academic progress, but annual renewal is not guaranteed.

Dental Hygiene Merit-Based Scholarships

All admitted applicants are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships, so that no separate application forms or interviews are necessary. The Office of Admissions notifies scholarship recipients at the time of admission to the university. Merit-based scholarships are subject to available funds. Renewal of these funds is contingent on the student maintaining satisfactory academic progress but annual renewal is not guaranteed.

Total assistance received from all sources (including non-NYU funds and student and/or alternative loans) cannot exceed NYU’s current cost of attendance.

Your FSA ID

Students and parents of dependent students may use a FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID) to sign the FAFSA electronically and avoid the need to print and mail a signature page. The FSA ID can be used each year to apply for federal student aid and to review your record online at the U.S. Department of Education. To create your FSA ID, go to the Federal Student Aid Website.

Once your information is verified with the Social Security Administration (typically 1-3 days from the date you apply), you will receive an email indicating that the process is complete. At that time, you will be able to use your FSA ID to access your financial aid information on the federal student aid website, the federal student aid FAFSA Form page, and on the myStudentAid mobile app.
