Program Description
The Master of Arts program in European and Mediterranean Studies is an interdisciplinary program in the social sciences and humanities designed to prepare students for professions requiring an advanced understanding of Europe. The program draws upon the established resources of existing country programs in French studies, Italian studies, and Hellenic studies, as well as the disciplinary programs, and also offers courses of its own. MA students choose one of three tracks for specialization: European culture and society; European politics and policy; or Mediterranean studies.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have:
- The ability to conduct research—including the use of library resources, archives, government data, interviews, polls, and/or relevant technologies—and to make and sustain a novel scholarly argument based on empirical evidence in the form of a thesis paper.
- Effective written and oral presentation skills, demonstrated in part by successfully defending their theses before a panel of scholars.
- The ability to think critically about and analyze European issues from the perspective of multiple disciplines, such as history, politics, political theory, international relations, sociology, anthropology and the arts.
- In depth knowledge of the current circumstances of the European Union and European politics.
- A sophisticated understanding of a particular European region, such as the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe, Southeastern Europe, Western Europe, the British Isles, or Iberia.
