Educational Theatre (Minor)

Program Description

The Minor in Educational Theatre introduces students to the transformative potential of the theatre arts and provides opportunities toi nvestigate possible career paths as a theatre artist or educator in schools, cultural institutions, or community settings. Students take courses in production and performance and explore pedagogical approaches to teaching drama. The curriculum includes required courses selected from acting fundamentals, scene study, introduction to educational theatre, theatre as an art form, theory of creative drama and methods of conducting create drama. Students choose electives such as Stagecraft, Directing, Playwriting, and Masks and Puppetry.

Minor Declaration

To request declaration of a minor, Steinhardt students should discuss requirements with the minor department’s advising team and complete the Minor Application in Albert. To request declaration of a cross-school minor, Steinhardt students should complete the online Minor Application available in their Albert Student Center. Students may also use the Minor Application in Albert to request cancellation of a Steinhardt or cross-school minor.
