Public Policy (PUBPL-UA)
PUBPL-UA 800 Senior Seminar (4 Credits)
Typically offered occasionally
The Senior Seminar will serve as a capstone experience for all public
policy majors in their senior year. Students will apply the analytical
methods and substantive knowledge of the policy process they have gained to
a current policy problem of their choosing. Each student will write a
senior seminar paper that consists of both policy analysis and
recommendations for action. The seminar itself will provide structured
guidance and supervision on the preparation and execution of a piece of
policy analysis. Opportunities to engage with real-world producers and
clients of policy analysis will be structured into the seminar.
Instructors for the seminar will include faculty at both Wagner and CAS.

PUBPL-UA 801 Honor Thesis (4 Credits)
The Honors Seminar of the Public Policy Program is designed to assist honors students in researching and writing the honors thesis, a thirty-page original piece of work that proposes a new policy to manage or solve a public problem, explains the historical background to the policy problem, and provides a real-world strategy for implementing the proposal. The Seminar begins with group discussions and one group project to hone questions and research strategies for the thesis. With the assistance of the instructor, the students then design their own individual research projects. For the remainder of the seminar the students meet one-on-one with the instructor or present their findings to the group. The course ends with a short thesis defense and the submission of the thesis. Students must earn at least a B+ in the seminar to achieve honors.
