The Master of Science in Real Estate Development provides students with the knowledge and the skills to find creative, sustainable solutions for the issues confronting real estate development professionals—from planning and design to land use and environmental regulations. The program emphasizes entrepreneurship, sustainable practices in construction and development; advanced finance; public-private partnerships; and global development. The curriculum helps you to become a strategic leader who thinks creatively and understands the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the development process. With a focus on growth areas within the industry, the program is ideal for individuals in entrepreneurial development; project managers in private or public organizations; sustainability officers; lenders or analysts in real estate development; or those new to real estate development who are interested in strengthening their knowledge and broadening their career options.
Admissions
Admission to master’s programs at the NYU School of Professional Studies requires the completion of a U.S. bachelor's degree or its international equivalent. Program Requirements
The program requires the completion of 42 credits, comprised of the following:
Students are required to select courses in any combination of the following: (a) from the list below, (b) from course(s) within another concentration in this program or (c) with permission from the Program Director, course(s) from the M.S. in Construction Management or the M.S. in Real Estate (pending some exceptions) degree programs. Please note that not all courses are offered every semester.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will:
Demonstrate proficiency in commercial real estate finance, economics, and regional market data analysis.
Integrate objective quantitative analysis with subjective judgment in the decision-making processes of acquiring, developing, owning, operating, and investing in real estate assets.
Demonstrate strategic thinking about foundational concepts of real estate law, ethics, and entrepreneurship.
Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of land use, planning and zoning, as well as environmental regulations and construction methods impacting the real estate development process.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding current global and domestic issues on environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges facing the commercial real estate industry.
