Financial Aid

The term financial aid can encompass many different types of financial support, ranging from scholarships to educational loans. At NYU GPH, students are eligible to be considered for merit-based program scholarships which are awarded as part of the admissions process. In addition to scholarships, many students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents take advantage of federal forms of student aid, such as direct loans and federal work study. In addition to these forms of aid, many students are able to take advantage of on-campus employment opportunities at NYU to help defray the cost of their tuition. Master's and DrPH

GPH’s MPH, MS, MA, and DrPH students have multiple options to assist them in attending one of the world’s most innovative and pragmatic global public health colleges. One of the most important things to remember is that you need to start to create a plan to finance your degree before you come to campus. This can include a variety of resources, some you will need to secure before your arrival and others that you will have access to as a student. It is important to know before you go, to ensure your successful completion of your degree program of choice. We have collected a variety of internal and external resources to help you finance your degree.

PhD

The School of Global Public Health offers PhD students financial support designed to help you undertake full-time study and research, to participate in superior academic and scholarly experiences, and to complete your studies in a timely manner. Students who are admitted to the program will be fully funded by a fellowship or a combination of fellowship and Research Assistantship for five years. During fellowship years, students will engage with their mentors and develop their scholarship and portfolio. In Research Assistantship years, students will continue to build their portfolios while working on an externally funded project with her/his mentor or another GPH faculty member.

NYU GPH also offers some competitive funding to PhD students to cover conference travel, pre-dissertation exploratory research, and dissertation write-up.

International students who apply by the specified deadline and are admitted to the PhD in Public Health are automatically considered for the same competitive financing opportunities as domestic students to fully fund your education.

Certificates

If you are enhancing your global public health career by obtaining one of GPH’s certificates, you have the option of subsidizing your academic costs through student loans.

Most GPH certificate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents subsidize their degree through federal loan programs offered by the U.S. Department of Education. To apply, you’ll need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year in which you’d like to collect financial aid.

You can receive several types of financial aid loans through the FAFSA, depending on your eligibility:

To be eligible for federal aid you must be enrolled in a minimum of 4.5 credits each term you are requesting aid.

You can also apply for private loans if you require additional financial assistance.

International Students

International students have multiple options to assist them in attending one of the world’s most innovative and pragmatic global public health colleges.

While international students who are not U.S. permanent residents or eligible non-citizens, do not qualify for any federal direct loans, you still have a variety of options to help subsidize your GPH degree. One of the most important things to remember is that you need to start to create a plan to finance your degree before you come to campus. This can include a variety of resources some you will need to secure before your arrival and others that you will have access to as a student. It is important to know before you go, to ensure your successful completion of your degree program of choice.
