Dual Degree Applications

All dual degree applicants should note that in order to be successfully admitted to a dual degree program, a student must be admitted to both programs separately.  Dual degree applicants should note the instructions to apply to the MPH program but also ensure they apply to the partner school program as appropriate:

  • Applicants to the MSW/MPH must apply to GPH and the NYU Silver School of Social Work.
  • Applicants to the MPA/MPH must apply to GPH and the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service
  • Applicants to the MS/MPH must apply to GPH and the NYU Rory Myers College of Nursing
  • Applicants to the MD/MPH must apply to GPH and the NYU Grossman School of Medicine

A dual degree applicant who is admitted to GPH but who does not apply to the other school will not be permitted to matriculate into a dual degree program.

In general, the elements of a complete application include:

  • SOPHAS application form
  • Official transcripts from each institution attended (or an evaluation of your credentials if you graduated from a foreign institution)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • Resume/CV

  • Writing sample (must be sole author or first author among multiple)

Although not required, PhD applicants are encouraged to identify potential faculty mentors at NYU whose research interests align with theirs and with whom they would like to work with in a proposed area of research interest.

Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)

Applicants to the DrPH program are expected to have earned an MPH or another relevant graduate degree (e.g., in epidemiology, medicine, nursing, social work, or public administration). Additionally, applicants must have at least 3 years of full-time public health or other relevant work experience after earning their graduate degree.
Students entering the program with a graduate degree but without an MPH are required to complete the five pre-requisite courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy and management, environmental health, and social and behavioral science, before matriculating into the program. Successful applicants will have relevant public health work experience, a demonstrable potential for leadership in public health, and a clear sense of why they wish to pursue a DrPH.

All applications to the DrPH program at NYU GPH must be submitted through SOPHAS, the common application for schools and programs of public health.  A complete application includes the following required materials:
