Business, Technology and Entrepreneurship (BS)

Program Description

NYU Stern’s Anand Khubani BS in Business, Technology and Entrepreneurship (BTE) is a four-year, STEM-certified degree that develops the next generation of business leaders with the entrepreneurial mindset and business and technology competencies to play transformational roles in the 21st century. The degree merges liberal arts, business fundamentals, social impact learning, a Global Experience requirement, entrepreneurship immersion, and relevant tech competencies, while still offering students the flexibility to pursue elective courses and minors across New York University.

Khubani BTE students will go through the program as a cohort, taking experiential courses in technology and entrepreneurship to gain both technical knowledge in analytics and coding along with an aptitude for managing uncertainty and ambiguity. Some of the required courses and electives will tap talent from across NYU. The Khubani BTE degree will position students to take on business and technology roles at both large and small technology companies, consulting firms, and banks, and many will start their own ventures.

Cultures & Contexts

Students may fulfill the Cultures & Contexts and Texts & Ideas requirements with select pre-approved courses from various NYU study-away sites. For the most current list of approved courses, students should refer to Undergraduate Current Students Academics.

Calculus Requirement

Students with qualifying scores in certain AP and other foreign maturity exams (IB, A-Level, etc.) may apply credit to satisfy the Calculus I requirement.

Functional Business Core

All courses in the Functional Business Core require at least sophomore standing.

Global Experience Requirement

Beginning with the Classes of 2027 and going forward, students are required to complete a Global Experience through any of the following: (i) NYU semester away, (ii) Stern International Business Exchange (IBEX) semester away, (iii) Stern short-term immersion course, or (iv) other NYU global experiences, such as NYU school-specific programs or the NYU exchange program. Online courses from a study away site taken while studying in Washington Square do not satisfy the requirement. NYU Stern is committed to making a Global Experience accessible for all students, and there are aid opportunities available for those with demonstrated financial need.

• Any "TECH-UB" or "TECH-GB" elective above TECH-UB 1 Info Tech in Bus & Society (not including TECH-UB 23 Introduction to Programming and Data Science, TECH-UB 25 Introduction to Programming for Data Science using Python, TECH-UB 26 Databases for Business Analytics, TECH-UB 27 Programming & Algorithms using Python, or TECH-UB 28 Dealing with Data)

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will:

1. Students will achieve professional levels of competence in core functions of business, including oral and written communication skills, and understanding of the principal approaches of entrepreneurial thinking and action.
2. Students will understand fundamental computer science principles. Building on this foundation, students will apply these principles to make optimal technology choices and to clearly communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and constraints to both technical and business audiences.
3. Exhibit intellectual curiosity, high levels of intellectual engagement, and open mindedness to new ideas and alternative points of view.
4. Achieve understanding of the role of business within global society.

Concentration Policy

Khubani BTE students cannot pursue business concentrations (examples: finance, accounting, marketing, management, computing & data science, etc.), but can still take the same coursework as BS in Business students who may be pursuing concentrations.

A Second Major in the College of Arts & Science (CAS)

It is possible for a student to complete a second major at CAS except for a major in economics. Students interested in pursuing a major at CAS should meet with their Stern academic adviser early on in their academic careers to ensure they can fulfill all the requirements.
