Ionelee Brogna submits proposal: Dear OAPRA Team, I hope this email finds you well. Attached are the required documents for a program change application requiring NYSED approval for the B.S. in Leadership and Management Studies. A title change to Leadership & Management is sought with this program change application. Therefore, a program title placeholder is being requested with this proposal. The Distance Education format is also being requested with this program modification, so we have included that application form as well. Attached Documents: NYSED Application to Change or Adapt a Registered Program (DOCX)Syllabi: New Courses (PDF)Course Descriptions: Added Required Courses and Added Required Elective Courses (DOCX)Curricular Requirements Form (DOCX)Updated Assessment Plan (DOCX)Email Confirmation of School Approval from School Dean(s)’s Office (PDF)NYSED Distance Education Application (DOCX) The Non-NYS Authorization Form has been submitted online. If you have any questions, or if additional information is required, please do not hesitate to contact me. This is my first time submitting a program modification for SPS, so please do let me know if any revisions to the submitted documents would facilitate a smoother OAPRA review process. Best, Ionelee |

TW provides proposal status update to SPS following related discussion about presenting at UPC: Mary, Following our initial discussion about the program change versus new program proposal, and after a preliminary review of the submitted change proposal, I need to clarify a potential NYSED concern. Given the scope of the proposed changes, which significantly impact not only program requirements but also the program description and learning outcomes, NYSED may ultimately classify this as a new program. We're continuing our internal review and will provide you with detailed feedback within the next week or so. This will allow SPS to make an informed decision regarding whether to proceed with the program change as planned or to pivot and submit a new program proposal before formal submission to NYSED. |

CK sends feedback to school: Dear Colleagues, Thank you for your patience as we reviewed the submitted proposal materials. We have some feedback on the proposal that needs to be addressed before moving forward with the proposed changes. Please note that OAPRA is prioritizing review of this proposal in order to support SPS meeting their identified timeline. See below for a summary of our feedback on the proposal materials and see attached documents for specific in-line comments, suggested revisions, and clarifying questions (make sure to view "all markup" to see all revisions). When sending us your updated proposal materials, please make sure to accept or reject our suggested revisions as appropriate, and make sure all comments are addressed (either by making the suggested revision that appears in the comment, or responding to the comment, if appropriate). Summary of proposal feedback: Change Summary & Rationale Overall: We made a number of suggested revisions to the change summary and rationale sections driving toward clarity and consistency and grounded in academic rationale for updates (e.g., emphasizing preparing students academically for professional demands, rather than focus on the employer demand part of the equation). If any suggested revisions do not align with the program plans, please update as needed. Changes to CORE: Please confirm whether or not the CORE changes in this proposal are to bring the program in line with the future CAS CORE (we noted in the proposal that one of the new CORE categories does not align with the CAS proposed CORE). SPS has not yet submitted a plan for aligning the SPS CORE with CAS, so we would like to know SPS's plans for this in relation to this proposal; e.g., do you plan to implement the changes to this program asap, and then potentially change the program again once you have finalized SPS-wide CORE changes? We have revised the rationale section on CORE curriculum revision to more clearly articulate and provide context for the changes to this curriculum category. Please revise what we have drafted to make this more specific to SPS's rationale/context. Implementation date: Please let us know the desired implementation date, and add this detail to the "impact" section of the proposal. Changes to title and program goals: We have updated these sections to emphasize that the essence of the current program remains, but there is shifted/renewed emphasis on certain program aspects to align with modern demands. Please update as needed. Side-by-side curriculum: We have made a few updates to clarify course/category changes. Please review to make sure all is accurate. Sample schedule: Please update to notate which courses are program electives, liberal arts electives, and general electives. Please also update the credit totals at the bottom of the schedule. Syllabi: We reviewed 6 of 13 submitted syllabi, all with the same issue re: credit hour calculation. Most of the syllabi are for 4 credit courses that should meet for 3000 minutes, but only meet the equivalent of a 3 hour course (2250 minutes). Please review and update all syllabi to ensure they are in alignment with credit hour and instructional time requirements. Distance Ed Application: This program is already registered in the distance education format, so you do not need to submit a distance ed application with this program change proposal. For reference, you can check registered formats in the NYSED Inventory of Registered Programs. Please let us know if you have any questions. |

CK sends OAPRA feedback to SPS: Hi SPS Team, We have reviewed the updated change proposal documents that were submitted to the UPC. They are almost ready to be packaged for NYSED submission, but there is one detail that needs to be updated. The updated section 5 sample program schedule (which in your original draft had the program at a total of 124 credits rather than the proposed 120) has only 10 credits for the last semester of the program. As you may be aware, in order to be registered in the full time format with NYSED, programs must have a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Can you please update the schedule to reflect this? E.g., you might consider swapping the 2-credit course in the final semester for a 4-credit course in an earlier semester that has a 16-credit total. The proposal form is attached here for you to make updates. Once this has been completed, we will send to NYSED. Please let us know if you have any questions. Warmly, Carina |

Ionelee Brogna responds to OAPRA feedback: Hi Carina, Thank you for this update and your note regarding the sample program schedule. While implementing your excellent feedback for the BS in Leadership & Management into other forthcoming DAUS program proposals, we identified some updates that should be made to the submitted documents for this program. All updates are identified via tracked changes for ease of review. The proposed changes are as follows: NYSED Application: Updated the course title for MATH1-UC Mathematical Reasoning (the department has decided not to revise the title of this course) Added 2-credit courses to the Critical Arts category Updated the Liberal Arts Electives category description in the curriculum grid to improve clarity Updated the General Electives category description in the curriculum grid to improve clarity Corrected the course number for RWLD1-UC 4050 Made adjustments to the sample program schedule to account for course prerequisites, worked in 2-credit courses to achieve the credit minimum for LAS, major, and general elective categories, and swapped 2-credit and 4-credit courses so that each semester meets the NYSED minimum of 12 credits per semester for full-time sample program schedules. Course Descriptions Table Updated the course title for MATH1-UC Mathematical Reasoning Added 2-credit courses to the Critical Arts category Corrected the course number for RWLD1-UC 4050 Curriculum Requirements Form Updated the course title for MATH1-UC Mathematical Reasoning Added 2-credit courses to the Critical Arts category Corrected the course number for RWLD1-UC 4050 Corrected the CIP code to match what is currently on file for the BS in Leadership and Management Studies program Please let me know if you have any questions about these changes. CK asks follow-up question re: planned implementation date: Hi Ionelee, We have one more thing to confirm. In the section on "impact on students," you note the planned launch date as Fall 2026, but the sample program schedule has a spring start. Do you plan to launch the program revisions in Spring 2026 (assuming NYSED approval is received)? If so, I will update the proposal accordingly before we send to NYSED. |
04/17/2025 |
Ionelee responds to CK inquiry: Hi Carina, This program has been designed for new students to start in the Spring semester to align with all other DAUS programs. DAUS requires students to have at least a one-semester gap prior to enrollment. As a result, Spring is the semester when new DAUS students begin their programs. However, since this is a revision of an existing program and not the launch of a new program, the department would like to offer the revised curriculum to existing students as soon as possible. Additionally, the Fall start aligns with the NYU Bulletins' publication cadence. Program updates effective in the spring do not publish in the Bulletin. Before this goes to NYSED, the department has decided not to revise the title for MATH1-UC 1180 Unlocking the Foundations of AI: An Introduction to Applied Linear Algebra, and this course should be listed as MATH1-UC 1180 Linear Algebra. I have attached documents that identify this correction via tracked changes. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Best, Ionelee |

CK seeks further clarity re: planned implementation date: Hi Ionelee, Thanks for sharing these details, and for the additional update on the MATH course. We still need a bit more clarity on the planned implementation date. It sounds like you would like new students in the new version of the program to start in Spring 2027 (following the Fall 2026 implementation), and would like existing students (who have completed less than 75% of the program) to be able to opt into the updated version of the curriculum as soon as it is approved by NYSED. Is that an accurate assessment? Or were you planning to potentially admit new students to the new version of the program starting in Spring 2026 (if the proposal is NYSED approved in time)? Whatever you choose is fine, we just want to be sure to provide an accurate picture to NYSED in the proposal. We appreciate you noting your alignment to Bulletin publication cadence. A couple of notes on that. For NYSED purposes, the Bulletin serves to share a current, accurate view of program curricula/requirements and policy, and in general, a published curriculum should be adhered to. However, for program changes that are approved by NYSED outside of NYU's Bulletin publication cadence, since the updated curriculum is approved and on record with NYSED, it is ok to allow students to opt into the updated version of the curriculum, even if the Bulletin has not been updated to reflect the updated version. From a NYU Bulletin team standpoint, it is also allowed to make some updates to the Bulletin during the Academic Year, so depending on when this proposal is approved, it may be possible to make the updates to the Bulletin sooner than you might think is possible or allowed. We wanted to make sure you're aware of this guidance, but of course if SPS has preferences around when to implement/launch new programs or program changes that aligns better with spring start programs, that is fine (as long as those practices otherwise align with NYSED approvals and Bulletin publication timing). Please let us know the final word on the planned implementation date according to the above, and we can finalize for submission to NYSED early next week. Have a nice weekend! |

Ionelee responds to CK inquiry: Hi Carina, It would be possible for new students to start the revised BS in Leadership & Management program in Fall 2026, especially transfer students. Spring is the semester with the largest new student cohort for DAUS programs, not the only semester. SPS would potentially admit new students to the new version of the program starting in Spring 2026 (if the proposal is NYSED approved in time). However, given this uncertainty, the department has asked us to list Fall 2026 as the most likely launch semester for the revised program. Best, Ionelee |
