Sarah Irvin (Meyers) submits change proposal for BS Nursing & related/dual degree programs: Dear OAPRA, On behalf of Dean Amar, I am submitting a program change proposal for curricular changes to the BS Nursing program. I have included the NYSED proposal, relevant syllabi/course descriptions, and the curricular requirements forms in the email attachments. The Non-NYS Authorization form has been filled out by our team. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to hearing from you. Best, Sarah |

CK requests updated docs from Meyers: Dear Sarah and Nursing Team, We are working on reviewing the submitted BS Nursing change proposal. In reviewing the submitted materials, it appears that the curricular requirements forms are incomplete. For the dual degree programs, the program requirements forms should show the full requirements to complete the dual degree, including both degrees that are involved in the dual degree. Can you please update those forms and send them to us? We will continue our review of the rest of the proposal materials so that we can get you any feedback or follow-up questions as soon as possible, but please do send us the updated forms at your earliest convenience. Let us know if you have any questions about how to complete the forms. Warmly, Carina |

Sarah Irvin asks for clarification on doc request: Hi Carina, Thanks so much for continuing to review the proposal documents while I am out of the office, so that we can keep the process going. In our past submissions involving dual degrees, the undergraduate requirements were always submitted in a separate undergraduate requirements form from the graduate requirements, so it is good to know the process is different for undergraduate program changes. Could you share the link to the correct form I should be using so I can give you what you need when I return to office on December 2nd? Thank you again. Best, Sarah |

CK provides clarity on Sarah Irvin inquiry: Hi Sarah, Thanks for chiming in while out of office, I hope your time off has been otherwise restful. Thanks also for sharing about your past experience/practice around the program requirements forms when undergrad + grad dual degrees are involved. The purpose of the program requirements form is to show all the requirements for program completion, so for dual degrees, that would include both programs, even if one degree program is at the undergrad level and the other at the grad level (you are already including both degrees in one form if they are both grad level). I can understand there may have been some hesitance at combining the two levels of degree programs into one form, since the undergrad form and the grad form are slightly different. The undergrad form, with a section calling out the core requirements, is the closest to what needs to be listed for an undergrad + grad dual degree, so I have slightly modified the undergrad version of the form to specify that it's for dual degrees (and includes both a note on liberal arts requirements for undergrad programs and re: the master's capstone). Please let me know if you have any questions about completing the forms. Warmly, Carina |

Sarah Irvin submits updated forms: Hi Carina, Thanks so much for sending along the correct form. I am working on this now and should be able to send the forms to your team by the end of the day. To confirm, is the form you sent the one I should use for graduate program changes involving BS/MS dual degrees as well? I want to make sure I am sending the right thing to you moving forward. Best, Sarah |

TW sends feedback to Nursing: Dear Kelly, Thank you so much for your patience while we reviewed Meyers' BS Nursing change proposal. We are happy to share the feedback ahead of the initially estimated January 24, 2025, timeline! Given our shared goal of submitting the proposal to NYSED as quickly as possible, and our continued prioritization of this proposal, we have also moved up some of the dates in the estimated timeline. If Meyers can address all feedback and concerns and submit revised materials to us by Monday, January 13, we anticipate being able to submit the proposal to NYSED by the end of January! See below for a summary of OAPRA feedback and proposal revisions, and next steps to move the proposal forward: Rationale narrative format: We made significant formatting revisions to the rationale narrative to improve readability and facilitate NYSED review of the content. We strive to provide NYSED with a clear and organized narrative which provides a rationale for each stated change. For future proposals, we encourage you to use formatting that best presents a clear and organized narrative. As long as all NYSED questions are fully addressed, you can be flexible with the formatting approach. Rationale narrative content: We made several content revisions to enhance clarity and strengthen our program modification request. These adjustments aim to make the narrative more comprehensive and clear to the NYSED reviewer. Implementation plan & impact on students: We made significant revisions to this section to clearly articulate how the proposed changes will affect all students currently in the BS Nursing program at various stages of their academic journey. Support letter from clinical partners: During our prior meeting, Meyers mentioned obtaining a support letter from clinical partners. Including this letter in the proposal could strengthen the submission and demonstrate external support needed for the program changes. NEXT STEPS: Please review all suggested in-line revisions to the content and confirm that it is accurate (accept changes), or update it accordingly. Please also add a sentence or two in the rationale narrative confirming the process for notifying CCNE of the new curricula. Please make sure to respond to/make updates for any suggestions made in comment form. Please make sure to cross-check program schedules and side-by-side tables to ensure that all subject codes and course titles are correct (we checked this, but as there are many tables to review, it would be ideal to double check before preparing the final submission document). Please provide the support letter from clinical partners. Please let us know if there are any questions or if additional support is needed to meet this timeline. We look forward to working together to finalize this submission. Have a wonderful holiday break! All the best, Titilayo |

CK completes proposal review, pings TW in Asana: I have completed my review of the updated proposal. It's in very good shape, but has a few items we need to confirm. We may need to check in with Nursing to confirm but may be able to confirm internally. The proposal doc is in your TW Edits folder Here are the items in the order in which they appear in the proposal: Rationale intro section: We asked if the curriculum changes corresponded to program description and/or learning outcome changes. They added the updated learning outcomes (no mention of the description, which seems fine because the gist of the program is the same despite the curricular overhaul). I added some language that the outcomes were updated to align with updated competencies, etc., as they didn't include a rationale for updating the outcomes. If we think they should do something like a side-by-side comparing current and new outcomes, will need to ping Nursing. Otherwise, it may be fine as is. Second Nursing Sequence: they make reference to impact on the professional nursing development courses. I think we need to specify which courses - I don't know which they are (you might know or the NYSED nursing reviewer might know, if it's a standard set, so we may not need to specify them). Third Nursing Sequence: We requested a rationale for replacing a course. They added something, didn't really include a rationale for the change, moreso for including a course on that topic in the curriculum (the existing course and replacement/updated are on the same topic). I revised some of the language to reflect that the new course is an updated version of the existing, which is sort of a rationale, but not a strong one. Might need nursing to provide additional rationale. Plan for implementation: At the end of this section, I added a short paragraph on clinical partner support, referencing the support letters. |

NYSED request for additional information: Good Afternoon, Thank you for submission of the proposal. I am still working my way through course syllabi but am almost done and will send a more formal memo next week. In the meantime, please complete the two following documents (just once) for the Nursing sequence-I do not need a separate form for every related program . This will expedite the process. CK sends guidance on NYSED feedback to Meyers, Sarah Irvin confirms receipt: Dear Sarah, I hope you're doing well. NYSED is in the process of reviewing the BS Nursing change proposal and has reached out for additional information to expedite their review. Please see attached for two forms to fill out for the Nursing sequence (just fill each form out once, not for each program). Please send the completed forms back to us by Tuesday, 2/25. Let us know if you have any questions. |
02/18/2025 |
Angela Amar asks follow-up question: Hi All, Thanks for your work on this. I am a bit confused. In the email Jeanne-Marie Havener said that she was sending a formal memo this week and asked that we complete the form in the meantime. Can we send it in as soon as Sarah completes it and not wait until next week? Since we only have to do one form, Sarah can get that done quicker than next Tuesday. I know the university is keen on us being able to communicate to incoming students. Thanks, Angela Angela Frederick Amar, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN Dean & Erline Perkins McGriff Professor NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing |

NYSED additional request for additional information: Good Afternoon Folks, This is in good shape. As you will see I need a few more details-you do not have to have the details for every course, I just need examples to ensure that folks are on the right path. Let me know if you have questions or concerns that you would like to discuss. Thank you. All the Best, Jeanne-Marie |

CK sends guidance on NYSED feedback to Meyers: Dear Colleagues, We have received an additional request for details from NYSED. The attached memo "Memo NYU BS chgs 02 18 25" provides a list of specific items that must be addressed in order for NYSED to complete their proposal review, starting with item #2 (item #1 is a summary description of the proposed change). Please note that in the memo, they make reference to "the Commissioner’s Regulations," which are the NY State regulations for registration of academic programs. They have included the relevant regulatory language whenever they reference the regulations. The other attachment (policyuseofstandardizedtestingrev615) is in support of one of the memo's bullet points. The first two bullet points on the list are to complete the forms we already shared with you (please note that we are confirming with NYSED that the form referred to in the memo as "attestation form" is the Nursing Content Chart that was previously shared). The remaining bullet points are re: specific courses and/or curricular elements that appear in the proposal. Please note, we are also confirming with NYSED that a sample of 3-4 items showing implemented revisions for each relevant bullet point would be sufficient for their review (e.g., 3-4 syllabi instead of all, when the same kind of change is requested for all; if a specific change is requested for a specific course, make sure that course syllabus is included in the updates). For updates to any previously submitted materials, we would suggest highlighting the sections/sentences that have been updated. Please also note in the memo where/how items have been updated under "NYU response." We will update you when we hear back from NYSED on the items we are confirming. Please review the memo carefully so that you can begin working on the requested updates. Please let us know if you have any questions. |

CK drafts clarifying questions for NYSED, TW sends to NYSED: Dear Jeanne-Marie, Thank you for your thorough review and feedback on the BS Nursing proposal. We will work on completing the forms shared last Friday, February 14 and prepare responses and updated materials for each of the bullet points outlined in your memo. After reviewing your memo, we would like to clarify a few items with you: In your memo, you reference an attestation form sent on 2/14/25. Is this the form titled "Nursing Content Chart" (filename "Nursing Chart")? (on 2/15/25, we received that form and the Nursing Credit Allocation Chart) The Nursing Content Chart had item 3 highlighted in yellow, are we correct in our understanding that items 4 and 5 require a written response, even though only item 3 is highlighted? We want to confirm that we do not need to send updated versions for every course/curricular element noted in the memo's bullet points. E.g., when updating the format for instruction or for linking CLOs to EoPSLOs in the syllabi, please confirm you do not need to see every syllabus where those updates are made, or for sharing group assignment rubrics, you don't need to see every group assignment's rubric, etc. Would 3-4 examples be sufficient to address any bullet point where numerous or all courses are impacted? (For any bullet point referencing a specific course syllabus that should be updated, we will include that when submitting the requested updates). We look forward to hearing from you shortly. |

NYSED responds to TW inquiry: Good Morning, Please fill out the two forms and, you are correct, I need samples of updated course syllabi-3 would be fine. Let me know if you need further information or have additional questions. Thank you, Jeanne-Marie |

Sarah Irvin seeks clarity on feedback guidance: Hi Carina, Thank you for this update. I had a quick question regarding the forms you initially sent. In the Nursing Content Chart form, there's a section that asks us to describe how the clinical experiences requirement will be met. Do you know how much detail NYSED requires for this question? We want to make sure that we give them everything they need to continue the review. Thank you again for your help. |
02/19/2025 |
CK responds to Sarah inquiry: Hi Sarah, For the clinical experiences question, you should focus on clarity of detail over length. It should be clear to anyone reviewing the response what a student must do in order to meet the clinical experience requirement. How many hours? Via which course(s) and/or non-credit program requirements? What kinds of activities? How much supervision is there/who supervises (an instructor or someone at the site, etc.)? Etc. If any of these details are spelled out in greater length in previously submitted proposal materials (e.g., syllabi), then include a note that more details regarding each salient point are available in the syllabus for [course title, including subject code]. Please also make sure to include a list of clinical facilities and sample site contract/agreement, for this question. Let us know if you have any other questions. |

TW confirms receipt of last NYSED email: Good morning Jeanne-Marie, Thanks so much for the clarification. We will complete the forms and share them as soon as possible. |

TW sends feedback response reminder email and timeline to Nursing: Dear Colleagues, As you know, we are developing a communication and enrollment strategy for the BS Nursing program, with a focus on the upcoming admissions notifications timelines for transfer (March 15) and accelerated (April 1st) students. This strategy includes both pre- and post-NYSED approval communication plans. To maintain our timeline and ensure the success of this strategy, OAPRA requires the completed NYSED feedback response from Meyers by this Friday, March 7th. This response must thoroughly address all of NYSED's inquiries, including any required syllabi. It is imperative that these syllabi are fully NYSED compliant and all questions posed are thoroughly addressed. As discussed in our earlier meeting this week with Tanisha and Karla, key aspects of the communication and enrollment strategy include: Targeting March 14th for NYSED feedback submission. This timeframe is dependent on Meyers being able to respond to any request from OAPRA within a day of a follow-up request/inquiry being sent. Since the transfer enrollment timeline is rapidly approaching, Meyers should be sure to have contingency planning for continuing students, especially concerning registration and financial aid. OAPRA/OGC will provide support for effective communication. Email communication drafts due to OAPRA by March 12th, and website/rollout plan by March 21st. Our goal is NYSED approval by April 1st, but we acknowledge that this timeline is subject to NYSED's review capacity and processing timeline. The ability to meet these deadlines, and therefore the overall communication and enrollment strategy, is directly dependent on receiving the complete and compliant NYSED feedback draft response by this Friday. OAPRA is eager to review the response and submit it to NYSED as quickly as possible. Please know that we are here to answer any questions and provide support throughout this process. Thank you for your immediate attention to this critical matter. Best regards, Titilayo |

TW sends guidance to Nursing re: learning outcomes: Dear Colleagues, We are reviewing your response to NYSED's feedback on the BS Nursing change proposal. While most of the response is in good shape, we have some concerns regarding response item #5, the end-of-program learning outcomes (EoPSLOs). In reviewing the comment section, we noted that the standard response ("accepted revision recommendation") does not provide additional clarity to the changes made. We recommend either removing the comment column or revising the comments to elucidate the specific changes made from the original to the revised outcomes for each learning outcome. Additionally, for some outcomes, it appears the revisions do not provide the increased clarity and measurability NYSED is seeking. This may lead to further feedback from NYSED. Please let us know if you would like to submit the learning outcomes as-is or if you would like to update the revised outcomes and send them to OAPRA by the end of day this Friday (3/14) for us to submit to NYSED on Monday, 3/17. To support a potential draft revision, Alex Forrester from our office prepared a preliminary matrix structure that you may find helpful. If you'd like to utilize this approach, please find the link to the matrix here. Please note, if you choose to use this method, you'll want to consolidate the approach to accommodate time constraints by aligning PLOs with domains and CLOs with PLOs. We may have some minor additional feedback on other response items, but wanted to get this feedback to you ASAP. Sincerely, Titilayo |

Nursing responds to OAPRA guidance: Hi Titilayo, Jeanne- Marie sent me suggested edits to the program outcomes. She said it was being a good nursing colleague. The curriculum committee was provided with the notes from Jeanne- Marie and basically accepted her suggestions. Hence the accepted revision recommendation. We think it is fine to submit as is so she can see that we heeded her suggestions and the notes she made in the review process. Let me know if you’d like me to forward her email to you. Thanks, Angela |
