09/18/2024 TW completes review: I have completed my review, please see my edits in the documents. Please be sure to request a sample program schedule since you have noted they are making significant changes to the curriculum. Additionally, please share the recent NYSED guidance not to include removed courses in the course descriptions list.
09/18/2024 JS provides feedback to Steinhardt: Dear Lindsay and Joyce, Thanks again for submitting this program change proposal - we have completed our initial review, and I’m writing to provide our feedback/guidance. Please see attached for the documentation in need of review, which includes suggested edits for your approval, as well as some guidance. Overall, this is in good shape - a lot of our edits were modifications to language in the rationale, in order to make the changes clearer for the NYSED reviewer. Some additional feedback below: Course Descriptions: we have received recent feedback from NYSED indicating that we no longer need to include course descriptions for courses that are being removed from a program. Moving forward, please only include course descriptions for courses that are part of the proposed curriculum. Sample Program Schedule: this proposal is a pretty substantial overhaul of the currently registered curriculum. Therefore, we are requested that Steinhardt submit a Sample Graduate Program Schedule for this submission to NYSED. Please see attached for a blank copy of the form. The purpose of this form is to demonstrate how a typical student may progress through the program on a semester basis. This is similar to the sample plan of study in the Bulletin - please feel free to use that as an inspiration. The sample schedule must include course titles/numbers, credits, and should note if the course is new or has any prerequisites. Syllabi: as a reminder, all syllabi submitted to NYSED must be in compliance with OAPRA’s syllabi expectations tip sheet. A few of the submitted syllabi appear to be missing some information, as noted in the attached Syllabi Compliance Spreadsheet. This program does not appear to include any courses that are new to NYU, and syllabi submission is therefore not required. However, should NYSED request that we do submit syllabi, please revise so that they are in compliance. Implementation after NYSED Approval: NYSED requires an accurate reflection of program offerings at institutions. In order to ensure NYSED has the most accurate information, program changes should be launched within 1 academic year of approval. Please let me know if you have any questions.
09/20/2024 Lindsay responds: Jesse, I'm confused by your and Titilayo's comments on the narrative. For the program title paragraph, Titilayo left this comment about the title (but not referencing the curriculum): Since this includes a program title, will current students be allowed to graduate with the old title or will all students be required to graduate with the new title. If students have a choice, please include a temporary placeholder request and termination date for it's use. If students don't have a choice, please include the following sentence: After approval, all students will graduate with the new title. A placeholder is not needed for this title change. And for the last paragraph (Impact on Currently Enrolled Students), you left this comment about the curriculum (but not referencing the title): Please include all options for students here, including if they may remain in the curriculum that they signed up for. Please also include how students will be notified of the changes. Question: It's our understanding that students are held to the curriculum into which they matriculated unless they choose to opt into the new curriculum. In other words, if a currently enrolled student wishes to complete the old curriculum and title are we not obligated to permit that? Related question: May students complete the old curriculum but graduate with the new title? In this case, since the revisions are significant I think completing the old curriculum and graduating with the new title would be misleading. Thank you for your guidance on these. I can then go back and discuss with the faculty.
09/30/2024 JS responds: Hi Lindsay, thanks for checkin in on this. You are indeed correct that students are held to the curriculum into which they matriculated, unless they choose to opt into the new curriculum. Additionally, I would agree since the (pretty substantial) curriculum revisions inform the decision to change the program title, current students graduating with the new title seems disingenuous. However, you are free to make the choice on what you allow for this program. If you would like to include a placeholder for the current title, so that current students can graduate with it, please include that request in the narrative, as well as a termination date for its use. My comment in the "Impact to Current Students" section is more about ensuring there is a plan in place to notify current students of the curricular changes.

10/14/2024 JS completes f/u review, pings TW
10/18/2024 TW responds: Please also have Steinhardt add a few sentences about the non-credited work students complete into the narrative.
10/18/2024 JS reaches out to Steinhardt: JS provides Steinhardt w/ OAPRA's feedback: Hi Lindsay, Thanks so much for revising these documents. Please see attached for a few remaining points of feedback for your review and approval, prior to NYSED submission. Our feedback is mainly centered around full-time status. Please note: NYSED defines full-time status as 12 credits or more per semester. However, graduate-level programs can demonstrate full-time equivalency for programs that fall under 12 credits per semester by showing that students in graduate programs typically engage in independent, non-credited work towards their thesis or other culminating experience. I have made notes in the sample schedule and rationale in the attached documents to this effect. We have seen NYSED feedback on this point in the past, so please keep this in mind for future graduate proposals when students enroll in semesters under 12 credits.
10/21/2024 Lindsay responds to JS: Jesse, Thank you for your feedback and helpful suggestions. I've attached the following: 1. Updated MA EDTC Revision Course Sequence (accepted your edits). Question: I included the semester sequence of study only because OAPRA has asked for it in the past, but the NYSED form itself does not ask for a sequence of study. Is it your experience that NYSED IS asking for a sequence or that you are sending along the sequence as additional information or is OAPRA asking for the sequence for your own information and you are NOT sending it to NYSED? 2. Updated Revised Rationale Narrative (accepted your edits). Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
10/23/2024 JS reaches out to TW: Steinhardt has approved all suggested edits, and added (per your request) language in the narrative about the non-credited work students complete, which demonstrates full-time equivalency (please see "Full-Time Status Equivalency" on page 2 of the rationale narrative), I believe this is ready for NYSED submission - please see here for your folder.
