Tisch submits program change proposal documents for MPS Virtual Production |

JS completes initial review, pings TW |

TW responds: I have completed my review. However, we should discuss this during our team meeting tomorrow. First, we will absolutely need to include course syllabi for these courses. In addition to adding language confirming the courses meet the semester hour definition which I've added to the change form, we will need to show NYSED that we understand the semester hour definition and that each course accurately reflects this definition. While Tisch is attempting to just put, no course content change, we will need to better explain this significant change. Let's leave time during our 1:1. Prior to our 1:1, lets add time on tomorrows team meeting to brainstorm together. Otherwise, I have completed my review. |

JS revises docs, pings TW: I have revised the documents here (program change form and side-by-side) per our discussion this morning: all instances of the phrase "administrative change" have been removed, and language around credit changes has been altered to the sentence we agreed upon: “the instructional and supplemental time has been modified to align with new credits allocated to the course.” |

TW responds: Thanks for your thorough review and incorporation of my recommendations. The proposed edits look good. Since there are no additional edits, if Tisch has signed off on the revised language, please prepare for NYSED submission. |

Briana replies to JS: Thanks so much, Jesse. The revisions are approved (and appreciated!). I will get back to you with the answers to the clarifying questions and the syllabi as soon as possible. |

Briana responds to JS, sends revised documents for OAPRA review: Hi Jesse, Thanks again for your feedback. I've included the answers to the two questions below - let me know if you need any additional edits to the document (such as removing the CIP section from the document) based on the responses. You can view the revised syllabi here. Here are the answers to questions from the previously attached OAPTRA Edits_GRADUATE COURSE CURRICULUM_02.2024.docx File: - Please confirm: is this final project related to a specific course? If not, how is it tracked? - Yes, this is directly tied to the Masters Seminar in Virtual Production I and II. - Please confirm this is the existing CIP code. This section of the form only needs to be completed for new programs or program changes that include a change in CIP Code. - Yes, this is the existing CIP code. As requested we filled this form out to completion. |

JS completes review, pings TW: I have completed my follow up review of this proposal, please see here for your folder. Please note that Tisch has accepted all OAPRA suggested edits on the program change form and side-by-side, and we did not have any follow up Qs for these. I do, however, have notes on the newly submitted syllabi: there appears to be misalignment between the credits allocated and total instructional time: for several courses, the total minutes greatly exceeds the minimum required for for credits allocated (for example, there are several 3 credit courses that total 3,360 minutes of instructional time - this is inline with a 4 credit course). Most of the syllabi with this issue are undergoing changes in credit as part of the submission - it appears that the credits have been updated on the syllabi, but not the instructional time language all courses use identical language/percentages for the assignments and method of assessing student achievement |

per academic authorization meeting, JS to reach out to Tisch w/ syllabi feedback |
05/21/2024 |
JS reaches out to Tisch with syllabi feedback: Hi Briana, Thanks again for accepting all of OAPRA suggested edits in the previous round of feedback for the MPS Virtual Production proposal! I have reviewed the newly sent syllabi, and do have some feedback to share before we prepare this for NYSED submission. First, I noticed that there appears to be a misalignment between the instructional time and the total credits allocated. For example: the course Technical Direction for Virtual Production is a 3 credit course, yet the instructional time indicates a total of 3,360 minutes. This is more in line with the minimum for a 4 credit course (3,000 minutes of instructional time required at minimum) versus a 3 credit course (2,250 minutes of instructional time required at minimum). I am wondering if you could provide some more information on how Tisch calculates instructional time for these courses, given that they are “non-traditional” workshop/studio courses. For example, is there no supplemental time for these courses? Furthermore, there appears to be identical language in the section for Method of Assessing Student Achievement for most courses. Do students complete the same assignments across the board for these courses? I have attached my syllabi compliance spreadsheet to this email, so that you can see in detail the issues I have flagged for review. Please let me know if you have any questions - thanks again! |

JS completes review, pings TW: I have completed my follow up review based on Tisch's confirmation on credit integrity for these non-traditional courses - please see here for your folder. Please note: as Tisch has accepted all previous suggested edits, the only edit I have made is add the following clarifying sentence to a) the narrative in the change form and b) all syllabi: "Please note: this course has a non-traditional format, wherein a larger portion of the total work for the course occurs during the class meeting time, with less anticipated supplemental work assigned." |

Brianna reaches out to JS: Hi Jesse and OAPRA, Thanks again for all of your help with this. I was wondering if you had a general idea of the timeframe in which NYSED is responding to these change proposals, based on what you've seen from them recently. I want to make sure I'm setting realistic expectations for the Virtual Production program - especially if you think it's unlikely we'll hear back by September (which would be the latest to get the first cohort of students into the new version of the program). Thank you for sharing any insight you may have. |
