09/28/2023 |
JS completes first round of review, sends notes to AF: NYSED Program Change Form, Summary/Rationale for Proposed Changes: The proposal lists the addition of a “new” course - ESG in Commercial Real Estate - to the required core courses. Please confirm: is this a course that is new to NYU, or an existing course that is new to the core (Tier 1) requirements? Regarding the addition of 25 courses to the elective options, please confirm: are any of these courses new to NYU? Please confirm the importance of the “tiers” in the core requirements - must students complete tier 1 courses before tier 2? NYSED Program Change Form, Impact on Current Students: Impact on Current Students: please include an implementation date for the proposed changes Curriculum Grid (Side-by-Side): The capstone course for the Impact Development concentration (Applied Project in Impact Development) appears to undergo a title change - please confirm and include in this document Curriculum Grid: there are 4 elective courses listed as “removed” here, but the language in the rationale indicates that 5 will be removed - please confirm/revise One course listed in the electives section - Professional Internship - is listed as being “moved to electives.” Please clarify. Sample Schedules: Per recent NYSED feedback, all semesters with totals under full-time status (i.e. less than 12 credits) will need to be reviewed: is this a part-time program? In the Business of Development concentration, there are two prerequisites listed for the capstone course: REAL1-GC 2300 and DEVE1-GC 2010, yet REAL1-GC 2300 does not appear in this schedule. Please confirm - are both courses listed prerequisites, or only one? All concentrations list 3 concentration courses - the requirements stated in the side-by-side indicate students must complete 4 concentration courses. The 4th course appears to be the Capstone - please confirm. Course Descriptions: Please confirm if the capstone course for the Impact Development concentration is undergoing a title change The “General Electives” section includes 24 “added” courses, but the rationale language indicates that 25 will be added - please confirm/revise Graduate Program Requirements: Please confirm if any of the newly added electives, or the new Tier 1 required courses “ESG and Commercial Real Estate” are new courses to NYU |

AF sends review notes to TW and JS: Hi Titilayo and Jesse, The attached review documents can go to SPS for the MS Real Estate Development. All comments are inline in the documents. This is in good shape and should be an easy submission to NYSED. For follow up/next steps: Jesse, please confirm when you did your first review of this proposal that you did a course reconciliation and that all documents were accurate. I did not see any inline comments documents in your email to me or the folder. SPS will need syllabi for any new courses--they are not clearly identified in the proposal. |

JS sends Erica submission documents w/ OAPRA feedback, below email was approved by TW: Dear Erica, Thank you for submitting this thoughtful proposal. I am writing to confirm that we have completed our initial review. Attached you will find the submission documents including inline comments with questions and clarifications, for your review and revisions. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Additionally: can you please confirm if any of these courses are new to NYU, i.e. have not been offered before? If so, we will need to submit syllabi for those courses. Thank you. |

Erica McGibbon confirms receipt/answers clarifying question: Hi Jesse, Thank you for your review of the MS in Real Estate Development proposal; well received! I will be in touch again as soon as we review and resolve the inline comments. Regarding your question, there are no new courses in this program change application. All courses have been offered before and several are marked as "Added" in the relevant tables to indicate that they have been offered and added to the program since the last registration. If any additional questions arise as we work on the requested edits, please do not hesitate to contact me. |

Erica reaches out to JS w/ a question: We are working through the requested revisions for the sample schedules submitted for the MSRED. (Reattached here for ease of reference). If students can but are not obligated to take summer classes, can we indicate that by adding in the summer term to the table but leaving it blank? |
11/28/2023 |
TW responds to Erica: Erica, The program schedule should be included to reflect how the average students will complete the program and how the program is intended to operate. It is an example of one way students complete the program. If the program is designed for students to complete courses over the summer term, please do include it. If the summer term will not be utilized by the majority of students, please do not include it. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. |
11/28/2023 |
Erica responds, confirming receipt: Hi Titilayo, Thanks for clarifying! This is in line with my understanding of the sample schedule. Jesse, I will therefore leave the sample schedules as they are and include a reference to this where information for the summer term was requested. |
11/28/2023 |
TW responds to Erica: Erica, No problem. And sorry for the confusion in my previous email. My email should have said: The program schedule should reflect how the average student will complete the program and how it is intended to operate. Please let us know if you have any additional questions |

JS writes to Erica with OAPRA feedback: Hi Erica, I hope you had a great long weekend! I am providing an update on the MS Real Estate Development proposal. Thank you for the thoughtful edits made in the last round, there are two minor edits for SPS to approve on the attached change form before we submit to NYSED: Impact on Current Students: the language has been slightly modified to indicate that while there technically will be an impact on current students, it is not major. Graduate Program Schedule: the schedules indicate that this is a full-time program, however, there are several semesters that fall under NYSED's definition of full-time status: i.e., 12 credits. Graduate programs may demonstrate FT status through non-credited work i.e. independent research, capstone/thesis work, etc. I have therefore suggested the following sentence in semesters that fall below FT status: "uncredited independent research related to the final capstone." Please note: we have been receiving recent NYSED feedback on this point, so moving forward all proposals for full-time programs must demonstrate that students are meeting full-time status. Feel free to let me know via email if you approve these edits, and I will make sure they are incorporated into the final NYSED versions. |
