05/04/2023 JS completes initial review
06/06/2023 JS completes revised review of documents, based on meeting with AF
06/13/2023 AF provides Allan with feedback on initial proposal documents, overarching comments include: Narrative/Rationale in NYSED form: A few changes listed in the side-by-side were not included in the rationale. Please see the yellow highlights on the form. Please add information. I see three big buckets of requirements: courses, research and dissertation. Each of these are being modified (either changed, added to or both). Please provide a brief justification for the change. This should cover why you are moving from an unstructured to structured program model. Implementation Dates: Please include information on when would the proposed changes be implemented and when would the current program be phased out. Impact on Current Students: include language in the narrative that speaks to impact on current students - how will the proposed changes affect students enrolled in the current program? Syllabi: are any of the new courses new to the university?
06/16/2023 Allan sends revised change form
06/26/2023 JS reviews revised proposals, confirms ready for submission
06/26/2023 AF submits final proposal to NYSED
08/18/2023 Diana Arpino sends NYSED feedback to OAPRA - given substantial amount of feedback, DA asks - does OAPRA consider this unusual? AF responds, confirming this is surprising - AF has not seen an older program subjected to this level of scrutiny due to the lapse of time since the last registration. This appears to me to be a change in approach or may be a product of new reviewers at the state level. JS and AF to discuss Monday, will provide DA with timeline
04/08/2024 TW reaches out to NYSED (Andrea Baird): Dear Andrea, I am reaching out to follow-up on a previously withdrawn PHD and M PHIL in Pathology (SED program codes 07763 and 77074, respectively) program change application. We are preparing documentation for resubmission and are requesting your assistance with review of our (1) external reviewers and (2) modified external reviewer document. As a reminder, we submitted a request to update our PhD/MPhil Pathology program and curriculum to create an umbrella for training broadly in the Biomedical Sciences covering disciplines from cell biology and biophysics to biostatistics and population health. The integration of our PhD programs into a single entity promotes flexibility in training, fosters interdisciplinary interactions, and leverages our strengths as a leading Academic Medical Center. As this program change request is an integration of existing programs that have been administered for over 40 years, we have a long and successful history of student recruitment, enrollment, and program completion. Our trainees are supported by a rich diversity of faculty experts and mentors and the administration of the programs is sustained by consistent Institutional support. Proposed External Reviewers Can you let us know if any, or all, of the proposed external reviewers can review our proposed changes? Lynn Cooley, PhD, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, C.N.H. Long Professor of Genetics and Professor of Cell Biology and of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, Yale University School of Medicine James G. Patton, PhD Stevenson Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Director, MS Program in Biomedical Sciences, Director Honors Program, Department of Biological Sciences, Vanderbilt University VIctoria Freedman, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Albert Einstein College of Medicine External Review Form We would like your approval to provide our external reviewers with a modified version of the external review criteria that reflects this history of success and focuses their review time on the curricular and programmatic changes that we propose. We have annotated the review criteria that we would like excluded in our modified version. We also request to exclude Table 3 from the review, Projected Staff for the Proposed Program, as the program is fully staffed. We will provide an organizational chart in our program documentation and all other Faculty tables to demonstrate this existing and ongoing programmatic support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
